This five-hour guided trek departs at 8:30 AM from Piazza della Chiesa in Castel di Ieri and follows a centuries-old trail across Monte Urano, a wild and largely unvisited ridge in the heart of Abruzzo.

The route moves through dense, quiet woodland before opening onto the panoramic ridgeline that links the three summits of the mountain. The pace is slow and deliberate, suited to trekking enthusiasts who want time to take in the landscape rather than cover distance.

At each of the three peaks, the trail reveals what makes this route historically significant: the megalithic walls of ancient hilltop fortresses, built from massive dry-stone blocks by the earliest settled communities of this part of Abruzzo. These are not reconstructed or restored structures. They are original, and they are still standing.

The tour is guided by a local expert who covers both the archaeological background of the site and the natural environment along the route. The commentary is in Italian, English can be arranged.

The terrain involves uneven ground and elevation gain. Participants should be comfortable walking for several hours on natural paths. The tour is open to adults aged 18 and over.
