Abruzzo experiences that give life back to its villages

borGO designs authentic Abruzzo experiences for curious travellers and for the travel trade, turning hidden villages, local people and traditions into meaningful journeys that support the region’s future.

Who we are & why Abruzzo

We started borGO to show that Abruzzo experiences can be both authentic and sustainable. Far from the classic tourist routes, we focus on small villages, local hosts and traditions that risk disappearing. Every journey we design supports real people, local businesses and a more balanced way of travelling in Italy.

Every itinerary is crafted slowly and carefully, with time to meet real people, listen to their stories and discover places that don’t appear in guidebooks. In this way, travel becomes a bridge between curious travellers and communities that want to continue living and working in their own villages.

Our mission

borGO was born from a simple belief: tourism should benefit everyone — travelers, communities, and the environment. We're dedicated to showcasing Abruzzo's authentic beauty while preserving its cultural heritage and supporting local economies.

Unlike mass tourism operators, we work exclusively with local guides, artisans, farmers, and small businesses to create experiences that are:

  • Genuine and rooted in tradition
  • Environmentally sustainable
  • Economically beneficial to villages
  • Culturally enriching for travelers

Authenticity

We are committed to preserving the soul of historic villages, supporting generations-old traditions, and providing travelers with genuine cultural experiences. Every itinerary connects you directly with local families, artisans, and storytellers who share the true essence of Abruzzo. What this means for you:

  • Real experiences with local families, not staged performances
  • Traditional recipes taught by village grandmothers
  • Artisan workshops in authentic village studios
  • Stories and history shared by lifelong residents

Sustainability

We believe responsible travel preserves the environment and strengthens communities. Our eco-friendly experiences reduce over-tourism impact while creating meaningful economic opportunities for local villages. Our commitment:

  • Small group sizes (max 15 people) to minimize impact
  • Profits reinvested in village conservation projects
  • Partnerships with family-run businesses, not large corporations
  • Zero-waste experiences using local, seasonal resources

Community

Your satisfaction comes from meaningful connections with Abruzzo's communities. We facilitate genuine relationships between travelers and locals, creating lasting bonds that benefit everyone involved. How we build community:

  • Direct partnerships with 25+ local families and artisans
  • Village-led experiences designed by residents (expert) themselves
  • Seasonal festivals and community events inclusion
  • Post-trip connections with local partners you've met
  • Impact reporting showing how your visit helped the village
