About borGO
What is borGO and what does it offer?
borGO is an Italian tour operator based in Abruzzo, specializing in slow travel, authentic village experiences, and sustainable tourism. We curate immersive journeys — from food and wine tours to nature hikes and cultural encounters — designed to connect travelers with local communities, artisans, and landscapes far from Italy's crowded tourist circuits.
Where is borGO based and which region does it cover?
borGO operates exclusively in Abruzzo, a region in central Italy stretching from the Apennine Mountains to the Adriatic Sea. Located approximately two hours from Rome by car, Abruzzo is one of Italy's most geographically diverse regions — nearly one-third of it is protected national park land, including Gran Sasso and Majella National Parks.
On request, we can help you plan a multi-regions itinerary, but we cannot guarantee the same expertise that we have about Abruzzo.
What makes borGO different from a standard Italy tour company?
borGO is built around slow travel and social impact. Every booking directly supports rural communities, local entrepreneurs, and sustainable practices. We work exclusively with local guides, family-run farms, artisans, and small accommodations — not mass-market suppliers. The result is travel that feels personal, unhurried, and genuinely Italian.
Who is borGO designed for?
borGO is for independent travelers, couples, families, and small groups who want to experience Italy beyond the well-trodden path. Our experiences are also available to international tour operators and travel agencies looking for a reliable local DMC partner in Abruzzo. No special qualifications are required to book, and no residency restrictions apply.travellers
Experiences & Destinations
What types of experiences does borGO offer in Abruzzo?
borGO offers a curated portfolio across five main categories: food and wine journeys, nature and outdoor adventures, cultural village tours, private tailor-made programs, and multi-day itineraries. Themed programs include craft traditions, heritage walks, transhumance routes, and slow travel packages. All experiences are grounded in authentic contact with Abruzzo's local culture.
Can I book a private or custom experience in Abruzzo?
Yes. borGO offers fully tailor-made private experiences designed around your preferences, travel dates, and group size. You can request a private consultation directly through the website, where a travel designer will respond within a few days to build a program suited to your wishes.
Tip: For the best Abruzzo experience, we always recommend to have a tailor made itinerary by us.
What is the best time of year to visit Abruzzo?
Abruzzo is a year-round destination. Spring (April–June) is ideal for hiking and village exploration, with wildflowers and mild temperatures. Autumn (September–October) is harvest season — vineyards, local festivals, and golden countryside make it especially vivid. Summer suits those combining mountain escapes with the Adriatic coast. Winter offers quiet, snow-covered mountain landscapes. Spring and autumn are most recommended for slow travel.
How far is Abruzzo from Rome?
Abruzzo is approximately 2 hours from Rome by car. Direct train connections run from Rome to Pescara and L'Aquila. Travelers flying internationally can use Pescara International Airport or Rome's Fiumicino Airport and drive east through a scenic route into the region.
Does borGO offer tours suitable for families with children?
Yes. borGO experiences are open to solo travelers, couples, families, and groups. There is no general minimum age requirement unless specified for a particular experience. Any age restrictions or mobility considerations are clearly stated in each individual experience description before booking.

Cancellations & Refunds
What is borGO's cancellation policy?
Bookings are fully refundable if cancelled up to 3 days (72 hours) before the experience date. Cancellations made less than 72 hours before the event may incur a 30% retention fee on the total amount paid. Bookings are personal and non-transferable; customers wishing to transfer must contact borGO Customer Service or cancel and rebook
What happens if borGO cancels my experience?
If borGO cancels due to severe weather, insufficient participants, or force majeure, customers are entitled to a 100% refund — either to the original payment method or as a voucher for a future experience, at the customer's choice. Rescheduling to an alternative date is also available when possible.
What happens if I arrive late to my borGO experience?
If you arrive late and your group has already departed, participation is no longer guaranteed. Late arrival without prior communication is treated as a customer-initiated cancellation and is non-refundable. We recommend arriving at the meeting point a few minutes early to ensure a smooth start.
Trust and Safety
Is borGO a legitimate and registered tour operator?
Yes. borGO is a legally registered company based in Abruzzo, Italy, operating under Italian law. All experiences are governed by Terms & Conditions published on the official website. Disputes are subject to Italian jurisdiction, with the competent court located in the Abruzzo region.
Does borGO have insurance coverage for participants?
borGO holds a civil liability (RC) insurance policy compliant with Italian law, providing basic protection for all participants. We strongly recommend that travelers also purchase personal travel insurance for comprehensive coverage, including medical emergencies, trip interruption, and baggage loss.
How does borGO handle my personal data?
borGO handles all personal data — including name, email, and phone number — in accordance with current Italian and EU data protection regulations (GDPR). The full Privacy Policy is available on the official website. Photos or videos taken during experiences for marketing purposes will not include identifiable images of any participant who has opted out.
Sustainability & Impact
How does booking with borGO support local communities in Abruzzo?
Every borGO booking directly funds rural economies. We collaborate exclusively with local farmers, artisans, guides, and small accommodation providers. Our model is designed to reduce over-tourism in saturated destinations while channeling economic value into lesser-known Abruzzo villages.
What does "slow travel" mean in the context of borGO?
Slow travel, as borGO practices it, means prioritizing quality of experience over quantity of sights. It means meals in family-run trattorias, conversations with local artisans, walks through quiet stone streets, and time spent in landscapes that feel vast and uncrowded. It is the opposite of checklist tourism — it is travel as genuine cultural immersion.
Is borGO committed to sustainable tourism practices?
Yes. Sustainability is central to borGO's model. We select partners and experiences that preserve local nature, respect cultural heritage, and empower rural communities. Our portfolio is specifically designed to align with the growing international demand for responsible, experiential, and low-impact travel.
