This cycling tour starts from Castel di Ieri, a small hill village in the Valle Subequana, reachable by train from Goriano Sicoli station on the Rome to Pescara line or from Molina Aterno on the Sulmona to L'Aquila line. The tour is conducted in Italian only.
The route opens at the Italic Temple, one of the most significant pre-Roman religious sites in central Italy, built by the ancient Italic peoples before Roman dominance over the region. From here the ride continues into Goriano Sicoli, a medieval village compact enough to visit on foot in a short stop.
The climb toward Forca Caruso is the physical high point of the day, with open views across the Valle Subequana that reward the effort. The descent brings you to the Necropoli Le Castagne, a funerary site set among trees, where burial findings reveal how communities in this area organised death and memory centuries ago.
The tour ends with a tasting of local Abruzzo products, a natural way to close a route that has moved through layers of the same territory.
Participants must be at least 18 years old. The tour is available from May through October.
