TraBorghi & Trabocchi
From Roccascalegna Castle to San Giovanni in Venere Abbey, in the heart of the Trabocchi Coast, with lunch included
The tour begins with a guided visit to the fascinating Roccascalegna Castle. We will discover its incredible history, rich in legends and mysteries, as well as its period of over 300 years of abandonment. There are truly so many reasons that make this medieval fortress fascinating and unique.
A traditional Abruzzo lunch will follow at the Civico20 restaurant in Roccascalegna. The venue is run by Valentina and Nicola and offers traditional menus alternating with 100% vegan and gluten-free options. It is an "art risto gallery" that frequently hosts painting and photography exhibitions, cultural events, book presentations, and Abruzzo cooking classes.
In the afternoon, we will move to the coast (just 30 minutes from the village) to visit the stunning Abbey of San Giovanni in Venere in Fossacesia. Situated on a promontory, it offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the marvelous trabocchi—ancient wooden stilt structures over the sea formerly used as fishing machines.
